Tips for Planning an Adventure Trip in Thailand
Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations in South-East Asia. Travelers can find here a diverse landscape – from jungle to incredible beaches and the blue ocean -, exotic food and an interesting culture. Thailand is, indeed, both exotic and cheap; and it’s also safe, providing the visitors a good way to get to know Asia.
Thanks to the varied landscape, Thailand is a preferred destination for those looking for adventure tours . When planning such a vacation in Thailand, there are some things you should keep in mind:
- Weather: Thailand’s climate is mostly tropical. In short, it’s hot and humid year-round. Average daily temperatures stay around 28-35C / 82-95F during the entire year. However, it’s easy to separate the year into three distinct seasons, based on weather: cool season (November to end-of-February), hot season (March to June) and rainy season (July to October). The best time to visit Thailand is during the cool season. In Bangkok, the temperatures range from 18C/64F to 32C/89F but in the northern part of Thailand it can get quite cold, but staying around 20C/68F during the day. It’s a good idea to avoid visiting Thailand in April, as it’s the hottest month of the year.
- Travel insurance: The general rule when choosing to embark in an adventure tour is to purchase travel insurance before you leave. Be careful not to buy it from the same company which offers the tour (you really don’t want to be left without the possibility to get your money back should the travel operator run into difficulties). Also, read carefully the part about risky activities and make sure you are protected in case something happens while practicing those activities (e.g. if you plan to trek in the jungle, make sure the travel insurance includes protection for such an activity). Last, but not least, the travel insurance must cover the cancellation and also comprise the medieval travel insurance.
- Getting to Thailand: If you haven’t booked the flight along with the tour, you need to get to Thailand first. Airfare to Thailand is not hard to find but you should take into account that if you plan to fly during the peak travel season, chances are you’ll be paying more than during the rest of the year. Bangkok is the busiest hub in Thailand and in the entire South Asia. Actually, any airline flying into Asia will offer flights into Bangkok.
- Accommodation: It is advisable to arrive at least a day or two before the tour begins. So when you book the airfare, make sure to also look for cheap hotels in Bangkok and book a room for couple of nights. Besides being sure that you won’t be missing the tour, you’ll also get a chance to visit the city.
