Bangkok is a favorite of Kyle MacDonald’s

Many of you might now who Kyle MacDonald is while some might not. In short, he now tours the world as a motivational speaker and has a rather curious internet project in his mind.

What you probably don’t know about him is his love for Bangkok. The smelly, busy, hot town is a favorite of his and he considers it “infinitely interesting”.

Each of us has different opinions about the places we visit. What he or I might love, you might not stand, and vice versa. But one thing is for sure: Bangkok is one of those cities which should be visited, without any prejudice in mind.

Look for AirAsia flights as they are cheap and the airline flies into Bangkok from several large cities in the Pacific area. Once you’ve got the flight book, don’t forget about booking the cheap hotel in Bangkok . You surely won’t have a problem finding such places to say but it’s recommended to ask for details from travelers who have been there and of course, do your research online. Overall, though, Bangkok is very affordable.

As for the things to do in Bangkok you need to make some plans for you stay because the city is large and there are plenty of things to see and do.

The Grand Palace is an absolute must-see. It houses the Emerald Buddha and is always busy. It’s best to arrive early in the morning (9 a.m.) and plan to spend here at least half the day. Dress appropriately for visiting such a place (long sleeves, no shorts, etc). It is a good idea to rent a personal audio guide. On the way back to the city, take one of the taxi boats available from Saphan Taksin skytrain station. It’s cheap and fun.

The Floating Market is another must-see place. It is located 80 km outside the city. You can either choose an organized tour or travel on your own (get on the bus from the Southern Bus Terminal). The market is bustling from early morning until about noon.

Of the many temples located in Bangkok, don’t miss visiting Wat Pho. It is home to the impressive gold plated reclining Buddha. It is located right by Grand Palace and you can visit it the same day (the Grand Palace closes at 3:30 p.m. and the temple at 5 p.m.)

The Ancient City is the largest outdoor museum in the world and definitely worth your attention. It contains replicas of famous buildings, monuments and temples that can be found in the country. It is located 33 km outside the city.

Regardless of what you plan to do here, remember to bring lots of memory card for your digital camera as you’ll surely be needing them!
